Sue Bozman Print E-mail

Sue Bozman, Dean of District Communications, Marketing and External Relations at College of the Canyons, has more than 35 years of experience working in mass communications and also teaching in K-12 and higher education.  She has been at the college since July 1989.

As part of the Institutional Advancement Team for the Santa Clarita Community College District, Sue directs the marketing and communications programs, supports enrollment management, writes and designs publications, oversees the content of the college’s website, handles media and community relations, helps coordinate special events and supports the college’s fund-raising and advocacy efforts. She is active in promoting the college’s partnerships with business and industry. 

Sue holds lifetime California Community College teaching credentials in media arts, mass communications, journalism, public relations, photography, graphic design and fine arts.

Raised in Washington, D.C. , she attended Wilson College , a small East Coast women’s liberal arts college for two years, and after transferring to American University in D.C., received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. She later earned a master’s degree in mass communication from California State University , Northridge, where she has taught journalism classes such as photojournalism and mass communications.

Her areas of emphasis were in the history of the American news media and women in journalism.  She has published a two-volume biography of Helen Thomas, dean of the White House press corps.

Sue has experience working on staff at several small newspapers and magazines, including a scholarly journal dedicated to academic research in the field of journalism history.  She also worked as a private public relations consultant, a free-lance journalist, and as an art teacher, in schools and community colleges in Maryland , Florida , Texas , and Massachusetts .

She was instrumental in creating the Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra Foundation and has been active in promoting cultural arts and youth activities in Santa Clarita. She has co-chaired the Santa Clarita Wine Classic, a charitable event, for several years.

On January 31, 2003, Sue was awarded the SCV Press Club “Most Cooperative” Newsmaker award for her work with Santa Clarita’s community news media.
