Did you know that the SCV Scholarship Foundation exists solely to give money to
graduates of the nine high schools in the Hart School District? That this Foundation has
awarded more than $2.7 million to approximately 2200 SCV students in the past thirty
years? That local students can apply for more than 100 scholarships with a single
application?

Since 1951, the goal of SCVSF has been to identify and reward local students for
exemplary work and to encourage their pursuit of higher education. Based on individual
sponsor criteria, our scholarship funds are being used in trade schools, community
colleges, four-year colleges and universities across the country.

More than 100 scholarships, ranging from $300 to $4,000, will be awarded to Hart
District graduates next spring. These awards are funded by local businesses,
foundations, church groups, professional associations, civic organizations, alumni,
parent support groups, families and individuals.

A single application with an essay qualifies a student for most scholarships managed by
the SCVSF. To apply, a student must be a resident of the Santa Clarita Valley, have
attended a Hart District high school for the junior and senior years, have a minimum 2.0
GPA, plan to continue his/her education, and submit an essay of approximately 350
words.

Is GPA important? Of course it is, but our sponsors are also anxious to find well
rounded candidates – students who have demonstrated their interest in academics,
school activities, and the community. Some sponsors want to give helping hands to
students who have overcome personal adversity or plan to pursue a specific vocation or
profession. Other sponsors look for students who have been especially active in
community activities, have attended certain high schools, or have taken part in certain
school activities.

Applications for the 2008 graduating class will be available online at www.scvsf.org on
December 1, 2007. High school counselors, who are also members of our Foundation,
will talk to senior classes in December or January (depending on school) about the
awards that are available. Completed applications are usually due to counselors in
February, so parents and students need to be planning NOW for our relatively early
deadline.
