"Families in Action" host Cary Quashen has been working in the field of behavioral, alcohol and drug treatment for teens since 1978, and is a nationally recognized expert.

Cary Quashen has dedicated the past 20 years of his life reaching troubled teens and dysfunctional families with the objectives to pass his personal recovery experiences with drug and alcohol to the youth of today and to provide evaluation, assessments and interventions to parents, school districts and the juvenile justice system. He has become a nationally recognized expert working with adolescents.  Since 1978, Cary has been working in the field of behavioral, alcohol and drug treatment for teens.  He developed and operated the successful AVALON treatment programs. Cary has acted as a consultant to several behavioral health programs including Loma Linda Hospital , Anacapa Hospital , Van Nuys Hospital, and Ingleside Hospital and Focus Healthcare program in Ohio .

In 1989, Cary founded ACTION: A Parent and Teen Support Program.  A non-profit organization, ACTION has assisted countless families in Southern California as well as the whole .

Former President George Bush, Governor Pete Wilson, former Senator Alan Cranston, former Mayor Tom Bradley, and city council members and countless school districts have acknowledged the ACTION program.  ACTION has been featured in several public interest articles in the Los Angeles Times and many other local newspapers.

Cary has made many guest appearances as a family and crisis intervention specialist on talk shows such as: Good Morning America, the Leeza Gibbons Show, Talk or Walk, The Carol & Marilyn Show, Queen Lattifah, Dr. Joy Brown, Rolanda, Maureen O'Boyle, The Ricki Lake Show, The Beatrice Berry Show, To The Point, The Marilyn Kagen Show, Extra, Judge Judy, Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus, The Mark Wahlberg Show, The Naomi Judd Show and The Governors Townhall Meeting.  He has also been featured on many local news broadcasts and numerous documentaries.  Cary has also been featured on many radio stations and has spoken at school events and health fairs focusing on topics such as: gang violence, drug culture, teen pregnancy, adolescent self-esteem issues, and self-help family support groups.

Stephanie Weiss is an award-winning public relations consultant and President of Strategies For Success. Stephanie has more than 20 years experience in advertising, public relations and event planning.

She began consulting in the Santa Clarita Valley in 1983 when she created Strategies For Success, an advertising, marketing and design agency. She publishes a number of newsletters, plans all facets of advertising and public relations campaigns, and writes and designs the gamut of printed pieces for clients.

Past and present Strategies For Success clients include Coldwell Banker Vista Realty, The Valencia AutoSpa, The Newhall Coffee Roasting Company, The Western Carwash Association – a 6-state trade association, Newhall Land (shopping center public relations), City of Santa Clarita (Earthquake Recovery Program and All American City Award proposal), the North Los Angeles County Small Business Development Center, City of Lancaster (California Poppy Festivals, Lancaster Performing Arts Interim Marketing Director), The Santa Clarita Valley Association of REALTORS, FHP Health Care, Drs. John Kaufman and Len Glaser, The Valencia Surgical Center, the Saugus Union School District, Kids Tours, L.A. County Office of Education, Cornerstone Christian Church, Bethlehem Lutheran Church and School, and Granary Square, Canyon Center, and Old Orchard Shopping Centers.

In addition to garnering several prestigious business awards for her clients and their businesses, Stephanie has won a number of public relations and marketing awards for her work including the 2002 International Carwash Association Maxi Award for Print Advertising Design, the 2000 SCV Press Club/Signal Newsmaker Award – Behind the Scenes, as a behind the scenes newsmaker for others, and nominated in a category of 5 as the Most Cooperative with the press as well. She was also nominated in a category of 5, in 1999 as a Behind the Scene Newsmaker. Stephanie is consistently recognized by the press as a well-rounded public relations practitioner and source of creditable and substantive information that enhances the news process.             

Prior to forming Strategies For Success, she was employed as a consultant for the Los Angeles County Office of Education. There she managed various federally funded projects; was a successful grantwriter, receiving federal and state grants on behalf of the L.A. Office of Education, was the editor and publisher of five monthly concurrent publications serving 95 school districts; and managed a number of employment training programs for the hard-core unemployed under the auspices of two federally funded programs. Stephanie developed an extensive training and development background while serving at the L.A. County Office of Education.

Stephanie has lived the SCV since 1967. As a long time member of the community, Stephanie is a past board member of the American Red Cross and was awarded the 1994 and 1996 Santa Clarita Valley American Red Cross Volunteer Fund-raiser of the Year Award. In 1995, she received the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Red Cross Spotlight Award for Fund-raiser of the Year.

She is the past William S. Hart High School District Advisory Council President for two consecutive years.   

Stephanie is a past member of the College of the Canyons Educational Benefit Corporation charged with developing and managing COC property for financial benefit of the College.

Stephanie, and then Mayor Joanne Darcy, began the City of Santa Clarita’s Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Taskforce in 2000, which focuses on community issues dealing with teen drug, alcohol and tobacco use and education in the Santa Clarita Valley.          

Stephanie is one of the original five hotline listeners for the Santa Clarita Valley Hotline and assisted in establishing and running the hotline until 1973. Contributing her public relations, marketing, and advertising services to the Saugus Union School District and the William S. Hart District, she assisted in the successful passage of Measure S for the Saugus District and Proposition 152 for the Hart District. She continues to serve the school community as well as volunteers her time to the ACTION Parent & Teen Support program in Santa Clarita and Studio City.  

Stephanie is married and resides in Saugus, with her husband Jim. She is a graduate of the University of San Francisco and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in the area of Behavioral Studies with an emphasis in the areas of training and development. Her adult children reside in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Pasadena, California. Tatiana holds a BA from the University of Oklahoma in Theater Arts where she is pursing acting career  in the Midwest and Justin just graduated as a professional Chef from  the California Culinary School of the Arts Le Cordon Bleu Cooking School.
