Acton Agua-Dulce Unified officials debate the merits of a second charter school petition from Einstein Academy. A county-requested Extraordinary Audit report released Tuesday cited alleged violations of the school’s charter petition, “significant deficiencies” with the schools’ internal controls and a lack of written accounting policies in Einstein Academy’s finances.

Newhall School Superintendent Marc Winger Announces Retirement Plans

Longtime Newhall School District Superintendent Marc Winger announced Friday his plan to retire in February, according to school district officials. Marc Winger told administrators, teachers and staff of his plans today in meetings, Winger said, of his plans to wrap up a 41-year career in education. Winger was named superintendent in 1997, it was a homecoming of sorts -- Winger was an elementary school teacher in the district for 10 years, starting in 1974.

Newhall School District Looking At Moving Elections, Cumulative Voting

Newhall School District governing board members directed Superintendent Marc Winger to “investigate the process of initiating a change to cumulative voting and even-year elections in order to address potential concerns under the California Voting Rights Act,” an official said Tuesday. The election change was approved at the governing board’s meeting in response to the district’s monitoring of recent CVRA lawsuits in the area, according to district officials. The Newhall School District will change its elections “assuming recent settlement agreements initiating the transition to cumulative voting and even year elections are held to be legally valid,” according to officials.
