More than 22 diverse faith organizations in the SCV have teamed up with one common goal: end family homelessness in the SCV.

Family Promise SCV is a new 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to helping homeless families get back on their feet through the cooperation and resources of local interfaith congregations. In 2009, the William S. Hart District survey revealed more than 850 homeless students within the district.  Upon hearing the news, several community members sprang into action enlisting the help of their various congregations in town.

Family Promise of SCV has now reached its goal of 13 Host congregations and close to a dozen Support congregations committed to taking care of our homeless neighbors.  Host Congregations have agreed to “host” 3-4 homeless families, onsite, for one week per quarter providing overnight lodging, food and volunteers. Support congregations will provide volunteers and additional resources. FP is poised to open its doors to homeless families in the spring.

Family Promise offers homeless families temporary housing, meals and assistance with job search/ life skills in a supportive environment designed to help them get back on their feet in the shortest time possible.

In 2009, 76% of families in the nation-wide FP program were placed into permanent or transitional apartments/homes.
