Academy Swim Club
Academy Swim Club will be a returning guest booth at the 2015 Home and Garden Show, showcasing their Aquatic Safety Awareness Program as they did last year at the 2014 Home and Garden Show. This state-of-the-art, private Santa Clarita facility is recognized as the Best Swim School in the Santa Clarita Valley and has swimming programs for all ages. These include Parent-n-Me swim classes, private, semi-private, and group swimming lessons, physical therapy, family swim time, private parties, and even classes with attention to special needs children.
Open since 2004, the Academy Swim Club is a family owned business with a mission to inspire families to learn to swim “by creating a safe, fun, and friendly atmosphere and teaching exceptional, developmentally appropriate swimming and fitness skills that build self-esteem, confidence, and character.” Owners Jim and Nikki Miller believe that it is a top priority as parents to equip their children with swimming skills to not only develop their brain at a young age, but to save their lives from any water dangers.
They were inspired to start their own business when their one year old boy fell into the pool. It was because of their four year old son who had the instinct to save their other son that he is alive today. In that instant Jim and Nikki realized the importance of instilling in children the lessons of self survival when it comes to the water. They create a fun and welcoming environment to the kids, and strive to give their students a sense of confidence, strength, independence, respect, and a love for the water.
By promoting and teaching water safety education, the Academy Swim Club hopes to prevent further scares by preparing their students ahead of time, and at the same time teach them valuable life skills for future reference. Another program they offer is the Aquatic Safety Awareness Program (ASAP). Like the Academy Swim Club, ASAP allows the Millers to educate the community about the importance of water safety. Through this program, they hope to reduce the number of drowning incidents of children under the age of 5 by “providing resources to schools and pediatricians to work together with families to raise Water Smart Babies”.
