Julie Pomilia and Bobbi Jean Bell bring the “best of western lifestyle and music” to our listeners again this week!
Julie and Bobbi Jean cover events from the last couple of weeks including the recent SENSES event and their involvement with the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival. “Around the Barn” crew – Nancy, Julie and Bobbi helped organize another major facet of keeping the vitality of the old west alive in our Santa Clarita consciousness during the recent “Saddle Up” Senses event, Thursday 4/18. OutWest (Bobbi Jean’s and husband Jim’s shop in Newhall on Main Street) Fox Feed, and KHTS all converged and exploded in a triumphant cacophony of Western culture. During the 20th Anniversary of the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival the “Around the Barn” crew conducted short 20 minute interviews, “Rendezvous With A Writer,” with the 20 writers and artists of the Buckaroo Book Shop – a venue organized and run by OutWest.
Call in guest this week is Stephen Harrington, lead of the western music group Mountain Saddle Band. Steve shared the stories behind the music and the sources of his inspiration. Of particular interest is the story behind I Dream of Riding Tough Horses, a collaboration with award winning Canadian poet Mag Wawhinney. The Mountain Saddle Band are true red, white and blue cowboys that sing from their heart about the west they love. True professionals, Steve actually called in from the parking lot of Old Tucson Studios shortly before the band’s first appearance of the day at last weekend’s music festival.
