Here is a little bit of what they talked about on Around the Barn:

Bobbi: “Welcome back to Around the Barn I’m Bobbie here with Nancy, Julie and Peter on the board. Around the Barn is brought to you by Heads up Therapy on Horseback, Out West in Old Town Newhall and Fox Feed remember that Donuts are on the counter this morning so it is a good time to shop at Fox.  We have a very exciting guest today and really a subject that is near and dear to all of us so we are really looking forward to that.

Our guest is Eric Hicks is the first African American Special Effects Coordinator and he has a great history all on his own about his life and his life in the movie industry but he also has a great passion for African American History.

Eric: “Thank you I come from a long line of military men. My father was a lieutenant in World War II and my grandfather was a captain in World War I.”

Bobbie: “How did you make the jump into writing?”

Eric: “I noticed while I have been working in motion pictures for as long as I have that there were not very many hero stories about African American. Especially from the 19th and 20th century, so that led to a passion of writing. It was not showing these individuals that showed great feats of gallantry. Such as the 9th Calvary rescuing the 7thCalvary, these types of stories were not ever talked about. I thought that was a travesty to these great men who were a pivotal point of making America what it is today.

“When you look at some of the old westerns you only saw one side when there were actually three sides, black, red and white.  And from the beginning of westerns to the start of the internet only showed a small portion of these hero type stories and they never really came to the forefront…”
