Cameron Smyth

Born and raised in Newhall, Cameron Smyth is proud to call Santa Clarita home. Smyth attended local schools, Peachland Elementary School, Placerita Junior High School and Hart High School. Upon graduation Smyth attended the University of California at Davis where he lettered in Football and Volleyball. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Rhetoric and Communication.

Smyth began his career working for the California Republican Party as a Field Representative. During that time he was the Santa Clarita Field Representative for Assemblyman “Pete” Knight. In 1996, Smyth was Knight’s Senate Campaign Manager, the youngest for any state legislative race in California. After winning the election, he was promoted to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff to Senator Knight. In 2000, Smyth was hired as the Public Affairs Manager for Shell Oil Products.

Mayor Smyth, along with his wife, has been very active in the community for several years. They have served on the board and volunteered with several non-profit organizations including: the American Red Cross, its local blood drive program, the Zonta Club of Santa Clarita, the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, the Special Olympics, the Betty Ferguson Foundation, and the Santa Clarita Valley Boys and Girls Club.

The entire Smyth family has enjoyed a long history of involvement in the community. Smyth’s parents, Clyde and Sue Smyth, have spent over 30 years working and serving the Santa Clarita community. Clyde was Superintendent of the William S. Hart School District for over 15 years and later served four years on the Santa Clarita City Council with one year as Mayor. Sue spent nearly two decades as a teacher in the Newhall School District. Together, Smyth’s parents served on numerous boards, commissions and committees for the betterment of Santa Clarita. Smyth’s brother Colin serves as a Major in the United States Air Force.

“I realize that you cannot just take from a community if you want it to remain a place you can be proud of, you must give back,” says Mayor Smyth. He says that one reason he ran for Santa Clarita City Council is to ensure that the City remains the wonderful place he grew up. “I love our City,” Smyth adds. “It is my home and it will always be my home. As your Mayor, I will always work to keep Santa Clarita one of the premier cities in the nation.”
