Join the Santa Clarita Public Library for a special evening with Catherine Bybee, the author of “Wife by Wednesday,” at the Canyon Country Library from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23.

Recognized as a bestselling book by USA Today and The Wall Street Journal, Bybee will speak about publishing, writing e-books, and her newest adult fiction novel, Wife by Wednesday. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Santa Clarita Public Library, the new “Author Visit” event is part of series of programs designed to build excitement and interest in books and reading through workshops with published writers.

The Friends of the Santa Clarita Public Library is a non-profit organization that advocates, fundraises, and provides critical support for the Santa Clarita Public Library and related literary and educational programs.  The new Author Visit series is hosted with money raised from books and materials sold at the Friend’s Bookstores, located at the Valencia and Canyon Country Library.

Since the opening of the Friend’s Bookstore in July 2011, the Friends of the Library have raised more than $13,000 for various literary programs and activities. Currently, the group is anticipating the opening of its third bookstore later this year at the new Old Town Newhall Library.

The Friends Bookstore is accepting donated books at all three Library locations, and is seeking additional bookstore volunteers to help prepare and sell donated books, CDs, and DVDs. The Friend’s Bookstore gives 100 percent of its proceeds to the Santa Clarita Public Library to purchase materials and fund activities.

The Friends of the Library group is open to all residents. Meetings are held in the Community Room at the Valencia Library on the first Wednesday of each month at   6:30 p.m. to discuss future projects and activities. The next meeting will be at the Valencia Library at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2012. Currently, the Friends of the Library includes 34 board members, with 7 active committees.
