COC Football Poised For A Run To The State Title

No. 1 College of the Canyons begins its playoff quest for the California state championship today with two things on their side–homefield advantage as the SoCal top seed, and a dominant defense that’s allowed ten or more points just three times this year.

The Cougars need three more wins to complete an undefeated season, and they’ve left little to doubt up to this point. In fact, they’ve handled everything this season has offered with relative ease.

When starting quarterback Andrew Brito went down early in the year, in goes former West Ranch quarterback Wyatt Eget and the offense didn’t miss a beat. Eget put up even better numbers the rest of the way, and just received his first D1 offer from UT-Martin as reward for such a season.

COC hasn’t just scratched and clawed their way to 10-0 and the best California juco football has to offer, it’s done it in style. Canyons average margin of victory is 26.2 points per game. They’ve won every game by at least 12 points. And the defense is special, with gamebreakers at every level–eight different players have recorded an interception.

Three more wins, starting with tonight against a Ventura team they cruised to a 31-7 win over three weeks ago.
