COC Theatre Department To Present Two Nights Of ‘Solopalooza’

Featuring two nights of original performances, the College of the Canyons theatre department will present a series of student created one-person shows during the 2014 ‘Solopalooza’ on June 3 and 4.

“We are proud to once again offer audiences the opportunity to see the impressive level of talent on display here at College of the Canyons,” said Paul Wickline, COC theatre department chair. “The unique collection of pieces our students have written, and will now perform, draw upon many universal themes that all audiences can relate to.”

Over the last semester, students from the college’s Theatre 195: Solo Performance course have worked with COC theatre instructor and Solopalooza director Susan Hinshaw to create a series of original performance pieces, that are both socially provocative and highly entertaining.

“The stories being featured at this year’s Solopalooza are outstanding,” Hinshaw said. “We have shows about broken families, drug addiction, bullies, cheerleaders, being an outsider, being a twin, and an obsessive compulsive.

“This particular group of students worked extra hard and it will show in their performances, as the stories are both fun and thought provoking,” added Hinshaw. “These students are excited to share their voices, and their stories, on stage.”

Solopalooza performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, and Wednesday, June 4, in the college’s Studio Theater, located in the Valencia campus Student Center, Room 130.

Some performances may contain mature language and adult subject matter.

The event is free and open to the public, however donations are appreciated.
