Dominic Dorsey, 46, of Hollywood, and Reginald Bailey, 69, of the Jefferson Park district of Los Angeles, are being called the Cowboy Gun Bandits because they’re accused of brandishing large-caliber revolvers during their alleged crimes.

The men, who were taken into custody Thursday by FBI special agents and LAPD officers, have been formally accused of a conspiracy to interfere with commerce in violation of the Hobbs Act.

The Hobbs Act “prohibits actual or attempted robbery or extortion affecting interstate or foreign commerce,” according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

They are currently charged with six violations of the Hobbs act, as well as five gun violations.

Dorsey and Bailey are allegedly responsible for the robbery of a Papa John’s pizzeria on Sept. 30, 2013, and an ARCO gas station in Newhall on Oct. 6, 2013.

Video surveillance tapes from several of the robbed locations led investigators to Bailey, who, like the figure in the tape, is missing a portion of his left ring finger, according to federal officials.

The Hobbs Act violations each carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison, while the gun violations hold potential life sentences.

The Los Angeles Metropolitan Task Force on Violent Crime, made up of agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, investigated the robberies with assistance from the Glendale Police Department.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station also was involved in the preliminary investigation of the robberies.
