Don Drysdale (7/23/1936-7/3/1993)
Played for the Brooklyn Dodgers and
the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1956-1969.
Won 25 games and the Cy Young Award in 1962, set a record 58 consecutive scoreless innings in 1968, holds record for hitting 154 batters, was Dodgers only .300 hitter in 1965, elected into Hall of Fame in 1984.
In 1956, The Brooklyn Dodgers added Don Drysdale to their pitching line-up. Drysdale would remain a part of the Dodger Roster for the next 13 years. Drysdale, along with his teammate Sandy Koufax were an unstoppable pitching force. During Drysdale’s last full season as a pitcher, in 1968, he pitched a record breaking six straight shutout games, going 58 consecutive scoreless innings. At one point, toward the end of his streak, he loaded the bases against the Giants.
In 1969 Drysdale retired, becoming the last Dodger to have played in Brooklyn. We lost the great pitcher in 1993, after suffering a heart attack.
