Award ceremony was established by the SCV Chamber of Commerce Hispanic Business Committee.

 

 

[view:node_ad=5]Last night, the community rallied behind Hispanic businesses and community leaders as the fifth annual Excelencia Awards Ceremony took place at the Repertory East Playhouse.

 

The Ceremony was put on by the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce Hispanic Business Committee, and the evening consisted of theatrical performances, scholarship presentations and awards in a variety of areas.

 

Each year the Hispanic Business Committee gives out scholarships to local students, and last night all 10 of this year’s recipients were introduced to the crowd. The local students are required to put in community service work and to write essays. 

 

Four total awards were given out:

 

Avance Award – Hispanic Business of the Year

 

Old Town Newhall restaurant El Trocadero took the prize, and the other nominees included Pueblo Building Supplies, Henry Mendoza Landscaping and Cruz’s Bridal.

 

 

Amistad Award – Community Leader of the Year

 

The individual honors went to Susie Szabo, with the Old Town Newhall Association, while Arturo Tresierras (Tresierras Market), Chris Budman (SCVTV), and Monsignor Paul Montoya (OLPH) were nominated.

 

Businesses nominated for the award included the Child and Family Center, WorkSource Center and the College of the Canyons Spanish Institute. The Samuel Dixon Foundation was the award recipient.

 

 

Adelante Award – Corporate Partner of the Year

 

The final award identified corporations who have supported the cause over the course of last year, and AT&T took home that honor. Chiquita Canyon Landfill, Union Bank of California, Mission Valley Bank and Mellady Direct Marketing were also nominated.

 

Three very special spots were singled out for improving the lives of Hispanic youth. The Betty Ferguson Foundation, Cynthia Lleranas, and Jaime Castellanos were recognized for those contributions.
