Families in Action – Monday, April 8, 2013
The month of April marks national Alcohol Awareness Month.
Aimed to increase public awareness and understanding of the dangers of Alcohol, Alcohol Awareness Month has been held every April since 1987.
Cary and Bob discuss the dangers of alcohol and the speed of addiction.
Guest speaker Cindy comes on the show and shares her story of her late addiction to alcohol, not having done drugs or drank until she had her first drink her thirties.
Struggling with her addiction Cindy was being admitted to behavioral health unit hospital, counseling, and finally rehab.
She left rehab on a thursday, and by friday, she had a DUI, and she did not care. It was all about her. She was arrested, no one would bail her out. I was on a run for another year. It went from being a luxury to a necessity. there were days when she would wake up thinking she had the flu, not knowing she was detoxing, and feeling better after a drink.
After that year, she had lost her children, lost her family, her current husband left. One day she had been drinking vodka, and passed out with a blood alcohol level on 3.9 with pills in her stomach. The scary part was that she did not remember doing any of that.
After losing her children, getting a D.U.I, and surviving an extreme overdose, Cindy came back to ACTION Family Counseling.
March 9th, 2010, marks the beginning of Cindy’s sobriety, the return of her family, and of her life.
Cindy went back to school to become a Drug and Alcohol Counselor, and is now interning with ACTION Family Counseling.
