Families in Action:  August 12, 2013

Bob Sharits hosted the latest segment of Families in Action without his good friend and colleague, Cary Quashen. Nevertheless, Bob delivered an emotionally strong and thought provoking addition to their ten year long (and running) archive on AM-1220 KHTS. The first guest to introduce themselves’ was Chris Jones, who is worked as a school psychologist before he began Project Friendship, a platform he runs in five different school districts which prevents educates children, adults, teachers and communities on the dangers of bullying and all kinds of preventative techniques for all kinds. Bob next brought Mindy McKeddie on, who has been a long time member of Action Family Counseling outpatient program. After overcoming her own struggle with drug addiction, she has dedicated her life to helping others. They came on specifically today for their experience in helping kids in school with the fight against drugs, sex, peer pressure, bullying and more. For many parents, the lives are their children are carefully separated. For example, Bob explained what they here over and over in Action Family Counseling, “How was your day? Fine. Do you have homework? Did it. Are you hungry? Ate already.” Then they run upstairs and facebook until bed. With cell phones in the mix as well, kids these days are 24/7 connected to their peers and even enemies, so it takes another level of parenting to stay on top of their kids behavior and it all begins with one simple step Bob’s guests kept repeating: Ask questions, and do not stop.
