Families in Action: August 26, 2013
This week on Families In Action, Cary and Bob bring in Janine to talk about the risk from Heroin, prescription drugs and these new “E-Cigarettes”. These new e-cigarettes don’t use smoke but instead, vapor. this allows companies to sell different types that allow people to smoke alcohol, types of cannabis and new product sold at smoke shops called blue blossom that families need to be aware of.
The Heroin Kills symposium is coming up this Wednesday 6:30 at the Santa Clarita Activity Center. People ask me “why is there such a big problem in Santa Clarita?”. Well this is a nationwide problem, we are making great strides in Santa Clarita in drugs prevention.
This wednesday, Heroin Kills will be 3 years old. This Program started as a way to inform the community of the threats. The second year was a review, what have we done. This year we are going to look at what we have done right. So we are going to showcase these resources and programs where families can find us.
There will be many speakers including testimonies from recovering teens, informative talks to show how social media comes into play and what parents should look for. There is so much awareness that needs to be out there, parents need to know what to look for.
Parents need to understand, kids are not addicted to marijuana, they are not addicted to heroin, or crack or alcohol. Kids are addicted to intoxication.
Anyone who is involved with kids in the Santa Clarita needs to come to the symposium so they can learn how to prevent future addictions in our youth.
