The earlier you are able to help someone the more likely they are to recover from an addiction. Parents must be willing to intervene because the earlier you catch the addiction the more likely you are to become sober at a younger age. Adolescents struggle with drugs either because it is learned at home or they are pressured to be cool and fit in with their friends. Jade pretended to use drugs so that she could avoid using them. She was challeged to use the drugs because she said that she used them. Her friends helped her use the drugs in a nurturing way. Jade remembers saying that she would never use drugs like ecstasy. She started to adopt an attitude where she didn’t care and started using hard drugs in the house. Jade got kicked out of the house twice and wasn’t able to stop using drugs until she experienced rock bottom but now feels joyful now that she’s off drugs.

Sage was put in drug rehab by her mother who was also a recovering addict. Sage wasn’t given much attention by her family. She was given marijuana by someone in her family that gave her the attention she longed for. The drug was meant to make her feel better. Sage’s addiction progressed because she saw her family members using hard drugs but inside she felt as if she needed love or a hug from someone in her family. She started pursuing broken relationships and felt the need that she wanted to be with someone who could provide drugs for her. She began to realize that when you are taking a substance it controls you and is not really you. One shouldn’t be taking drugs to be fulfilled. Sage hated her mother for putting her in rehab but is now very greatful that she did it.
