Families in Action – February 25, 2013

Listen to all of Families in Action’s podcast’s here!

Families in Action with Cary Quashen air on AM-1220 KHTS Mondays from 12pm-1pm.

Welcome to Families in Action, right here on Santa Clarita’s Home Town Station, AM 1220 KHTS.

Today we are going to talk about what are the best options for treatment.  If someone walks into our office and says “help me”.  What is going to happen to them?  We will walk through the process from start to, well I do not want to say finish because it is an ongoing process.

We will look at best treatment outcomes.  Not everyone that walks through our offices has needs the same treatment methods or the same place in treatment.  When we come back we will talk about how we determine those.

All people see is the rehab that we have, but that is just one small portion of what we do over at Action Family Zone.  Along with that we also offer programs with the school, city, sheriffs department and outreach, these are all free programs that we offer.

We are talking a lot about treatment and before we get into that any more I want to go back to what we where originally talking about, which was when people come to our groups.  These people are so lost and hurt as they are watching their kids self destruct, and the message that we want to give out is that you are not alone and you need to reach out.  To watch someone fall and self destruct can be even more painful at times. But the beauty of places like Action is that if you ask for help, then you can get everything you need, because only you have any power over yourself.

There is an interesting thing that goes on in a family dynamic.  Because it is such a dynamic action between family members, when one of them makes a change for the better, every one in the house has to start to move along with it.  it forces that change.  If you get a dad who’s son is using.  If he learns those boundaries and stops his enabling behavior then the son is forced to change.

That is one of the hardest thing to do is when we get phone calls from parents who do not know what to do, who are afraid to barrier their children.
