Topic: Making and Breaking Self-Contracts
Guests: Amanda and Ian
Peer pressure is really great now a days. On average kids spend between 2 to 10 minutes with their kids. Communication has changed with the presence of social media. Someone can make a contract with themselves to never use a drug and end up breaking that contract.
Amanda started using drugs because she wanted to be apart of what her cousins were doing. She started to feel fine using drugs because her cousins reassured her that it was OK. She needed the positive influence of her family to help her get off of drugs.
Ian also made a contract with his grandfather that he was never going to use drugs. He started using drugs because he saw other students around his school using them. He asked one of his friends to get a cigarette for him. Ian wanted more to fit in with his peers rather than regarding the contract he made with himself to never use them, eventually he found enjoyment in using the drugs and found it easier to make friends using drugs. He put the drugs that he was using into his budget. Ian started to feel the pressure of others asking him what he wanted to do with his life. Ian made the decision that he did not want to use drugs anymore. He surrounded himself with positive influences to help him. In order to recover from drug addiction it is best to get help as soon as you can and start living up to your own contracts.
