Families in Action – March 18, 2013

Families in Action was hosted by Bob Sharits today because Cary Quashen was on the road today.  Families in Action featured Janine Prado, Human Services Administrator, Community Services Division and Lawrence “Larry” E. Schallert, Director of Program Development at the Child and Family Center. Both Janine and Larry both came on the show to talk about “Teen Scene Plugged In.”

This event in the past was known as “Teen Scene Unplugged” but this year they wanted to make sure that the teens in the community are in fact plugged in to what is going on around them.

“Everyone who has a teenager, a pre-teen, or in that transitional age should come to this event,” Schallert said. “We want to make sure that families can learn to communicate better and make sure parents know what it’s like to be a teenager these days and if your teen doesn’t think you can understand they won’t want to communicate with you at all. We don’t want teens to express themselves in a destructive way.”

Teen Scene Plugged In is always packed with information and useful resources to help parents and teens get through the crucial teenage years.

The event is happening on Wednesday March 20, 2013 at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons. It is free and open to the public. Parents, counselors, youth service providers, and community members involved in the education and well-being of our youth are encouraged to attend.
