Families in Action: March 31, 2014

Welcome to Families in Action on your Hometown Station, AM 1220 KHTS with your hosts Bob Sharits and Cary Quashen of Action.

Today Families in Action are talking about traffic collisions and teens.  We need to start calling them collisions as opposed to accidents.  None of these are “accidents”, even if they were unintentional, they are not accidents.

50 percent of accident victims who don’t wear seatbelts could have prevented the damage done simply by wearing a seat belt, no matter how bad the accident.

Car crashes are the number one cause of death in teens, and one third of them are alcohol related.

All of these lives cut short could have been prevented.  The first thing that is impaired when you drink is your judgment, judgment not to drive, judgment not to wear a seatbelt, judgment not to get in a car with a drunk driver.

If you have a teen, you should take them to Central park and show them the memorial dedicated to youths in this valley that lost their lives to preventable car crashes.

This is an awareness issue that needs to be considered not only during the holidays, but every day of the year.

Teens with new drivers licences are not allowed to drive between 11 pm and 5 am,  young drivers can not drive people under the age of 25 without permission, and absolutely no measure of alcohol is legal for drivers under 21.

Be sure to listen to the whole podcast so you don’t miss a thing.
