Families in Action: May 12, 2014

Welcome to Families in Action on Santa Clarita’s Hometown Station, AM 1220 KHTS, with your Hosts Cary Quashen and Bob Sharits from Action Family Counseling.   Today Capitan Johnson from the Santa Clarita’s Sheriff’s Department joins the show today to discuss how the city has been taking action against addiction.

No one plans to grow up to be a drug addict, children will say they want to grow up to be a police officer or a fireman, but never do they say “I want to be a drug addict”.  It all starts with breaking contracts, and the first contract that they break is when they say to themselves “it’s only a cigarette”.

The Sheriffs Department has been trying to intervene at the youngest stages of a childs life to help prevent them from beginning the stages of addiction.

often times people say to help someone, you have to wait for them to hit rock bottom, the problem with that is often times with drugs, rock bottom means death and we just can not wait that long.  Now when someone cleans up from drugs, it is not because they hit rock bottom, but because someone else intervened, and the earlier you intervene, the better chance someone will have to recover.

It is impossible for someone for someone who is strung out on meth to be happy,  they may think they are good all they want, but when the lights are out and they lay down at night, they are scared.

We have made some significant arrests of dealers in the valley that were bringing in heroin, but people need to know, it’s not just heroin that kills,  all drugs kill.
