It is hard to comprehend the sacrifice the veterans make going into a foreign country. Albert went into the military because things in his life weren’t falling into place. Being in a boot camp was a huge culture shock for Albert. He spent time in the Philippines and was surprised by how many soldiers were on the Navy ship. The military is very structured and you are told what you are supposed to do while you are there. However, Albert did not necessarily prepare for when he had to come back to civilian life. When Albert returned home he had a fear of the unknown. He is currently gaining support from the Veterans Administration which provide benefits for veterans that have returned home. He recommends that returning veterans seek the support from the V.A.
Sean Quashen, the son of host Cary, grew up playing with action figures as a child which inspired him to join the military. In high school, he joined the R.O.T.C. program. He spent time in Georgia and Afghanistan on a nuclear marine ship and infantry unit. Sean’s military experience was beyond what he expected. Sean said that no one can really imagine what it is like to be in the military until you are actually there. The military tries to keep you in the military for as long as you can and provides incentives to stay.
Once you return from the military it is really hard to adjust to civilian life if you do not have things established back home. Soldiers may have a hard time adjusting to family life and interactions with their spouse and children.
