Fast Frame Valencia Art Show/Sale Reception 2012 – Cecily Willis
(Story and Photos by Gabie Cardenas)
Fast Frame Valencia on Valencia Boulevard (in the Whole Foods/Kohl’s Center) held an Art Show and Sale Reception for watercolor painter Cecily Willis on Saturday, April 14 from 1-4pm
The artist, water color specialist Cecily Willis was present and all her work, that took one wall in the FastFrame facility, was on sale.
Her work represents both people and achitecture, in a very realistic style, almost photographic – truly unique. Willis says about herslef “I love that I am a citizen of this world, that I am not “terminally unique”.”
“The paintings representing people are personal, these are my grandchildren…” said Willis pointing at her art in cronological order, from infants to older children.
Willis also loves old buildings and signs and she admits that she wants “to paint them before they’re all gone”. As a native of Southern California, she has seen far too many landmarks torn down and/or destroyed.
Happening at the same time at FastFrame, was another event, as well as the store being open to business. Featured was yet another wall, filled with art created this time by childen. It was part of the nationwide FastFrame Kids Art Contest, where children from across the nation compete for the best art on a variety of mediums. As the FastFrame owners Randy Burzynski & Rose-Marie Longan proudly admitted, one child from our community was awarded at the national level competition, from over 300 participating FastFrame locations. The young artists received a “Awesome Artist” Award to aknowledge their talent.
