Free Lunch Program Starts At Local Park, School Facilities

School-Food-1-640x458The Santa Clarita Valley Food Services Agency has announced its participation in the 2012 summer free meal program, sponsored by the California Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The agency invites all children between the ages of 1 and 18 to participate. There are no income restrictions, as the meals are made available under the federal child nutrition program. Meals must be consumed on the facility premises.

Disabled persons 19 years of age and older who participate during regular school periods in a public or private nonprofit school program for the mentally or physically disabled are also eligible to participate in this program.

Below are listed participating sites. Of note: all sites will be closed on the holiday, July 4; some sites serve breakfast and lunch, some sites serve lunch only:

Newhall Boys and Girls Club (24909 Newhall Ave., Newhall)

  • June 18-August 15
  • Breakfast served 8-9 a.m., lunch noon-1 pm
  • Club membership not required to participate in free meal program

SCV Boys and Girls Club/Sierra Vista (19425 Stillmore St., Canyon Country)

  • June 18-August 15
  • Breakfast served 8-9 a.m., lunch noon-1:30 P.M.
  • Club membership not required to participate in free meal program

Val Verde Youth Activity League (30300 Arlington St., Val Verde)

  • June 4-August 10
  • Lunch served noon-2 p.m.

Leona Cox Elementary School (18643 Oakmoor St., Canyon Country)

  • June 25-July 20
  • Breakfast served 8-8:30 a.m., lunch 11:30-12:30

Santa Clarita Community Center (22421 Market St., Newhall)

  • June 18-August 17
  • Lunch served noon-1 p.m.
  • Membership not required to participate in free meal program

Valley View Elementary School (19414 Sierra Estates Dr., Newhall)

  • June 25-July 20
  • Breakfast served 7:30-8:30 a.m., lunch 11:30-12:30 p.m.
