Friday Matinee – April 12, 2013
Today on Friday Matinee, Paul Strickland hangs out with two individuals playing in CalArts: Wild Beast. Wild Beast is a musical treat with faculty, students, and alumni – which involves self directed musical ensembles. Wild Beast even played some of music that will be played at the event, which is expecting a huge crowd at CalArts. Next, Paul interviews Wade Bradford with the Canyon Theatre Guild. Wade has written a kid friendly, personal version of The Little Mermaid, exploring the Disney classic in new light – her name is Kiera who falls in love with a dimwitted nerd, this new take on the story is filled with excitement and twists the whole family will love. May 25th is the opening for this unique spin on the Little Mermaid. Wade has also created and developed a series on YouTube called, “Time Trippers” about kids from the future who travel back in time to visit Santa Clarita. Episode 1 premiered last month, directed by John Medlin, and this project is a labor love, which really separates it from many other projects. In addition to juggling these several projects, Wade is also a teacher. He used to teach at College of the Canyons, and now teaches at Moorpark College. You can find out about all of Wade Bradford’s work, which includes plays as well, at wadebradford.com.
