It’s obvious from the grocery store displays and eerily decorated houses, Halloween in the Santa Clarita Valley is fast approaching.

There are a number of events planned for the week around Halloween, both for families who are looking for a kid-friendly carnival and for those who want something a little scarier.

There are also activities for every budget, including some that are completely free.

Six Flags Magic Mountain’s Fright Fest

This weekend, Oct. 24-27, Magic Mountain’s Fright Fest wraps up with this season’s last weekend of scary thrills. The Park is open until 12 a.m. on Thursday, 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and 11 p.m. on Sunday. Special attractions include a haunted toy factory and the chance to ride Colossus backwards. Harry Carey’s Haunted House at Tesoro Adobe Historic Park

Oct. 25-29, Tesoro Adobe Park staff will be hosting a free haunted house for all ages. Click here to learn more.

City of Santa Clarita’s Halloween Fiesta

On Friday, Oct. 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the Newhall Community Center will host free live entertainment, a children’s costume contest and pumpkin decorating. Refreshments will be provided.

City of Santa Clarita’s Fall Carnival

On Friday, Oct. 25 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., the Canyon Country Community Center will host games, contests and crafts. This is a free members-only event, and the Canyon Country Community Center is currently accepting registration. Click here to learn more.

Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society’s Heritage Haunt

On both Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26 from 6:30 to 10 p.m., guests can experience a haunted asylum and cemetery, in addition to a zombie dance party at Heritage Junction Park. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. This event is not recommended for children younger than 8 years old. Click here to learn more.

Richard H. Rioux Memorial Park’s Halloween Festival

On Saturday, Oct. 26 from 3 to 6 p.m., there will be free games, face painting, costume contest and candy at the park in Stevenson Ranch. Click here to learn more.

Real Life Church’s Halloween at the Castle

On Saturday, Oct. 26 from 3 to 8 p.m., families can enjoy live entertainment, jousting, an aerial act and candy at this free carnival on Real Life’s Valencia campus. Click here to learn more.

Castaic Sports Complex’s Halloween Splash

On Saturday, Oct. 26 from 5 to 8 p.m., the Sports Complex will host pumpkin carving, candy, a costume contest, carnival games, face painting and a reptile zoo. This event is free for all ages. Click here to learn more.

DFYIT’s Scary Movie Night

On Saturday, Oct. 26 from 6 to 8:30 p.m., local teenagers are invited to the Santa Clarita Sports Complex for a costume contest, games, music, dancing and the movie “Hocus Pocus.” This event is free for all teens. Click here to learn more.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Haunted Jailhouse

On Sunday, Oct. 27 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., local deputies will open the Santa Clarita Valley Jailhouse to the public, divided into two haunted houses. Guests can enjoy an “Alice in Wonderland”-themed side and a true haunted house side. The event will also include Sheriff’s Department displays, moon bounces, music, food, game booths and costume contests. A $1 donation is suggested.

Church on the Way’s Candyland SCV

On Thursday, Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., families can celebrate Halloween with games and trunk-or-treating. The event is free, but food will also be available for purchase from local vendors. Click here to learn more.

College of the Canyons’ Fall Festival

On Friday, Nov. 1 from 5 to 9 p.m., families can enjoy a free movie screening of “E.T.,” in addition to face-painting, pumpkin decorating, cotton candy and popcorn and food vendors at COC’s Canyon Country Campus.
