This victory marks the group’s 11th year earning the title under the direction of band teacher Anthony Bailey. hart-regiment-wins-championship-at-state-marching-competition

“The win was a really big deal for the senior class. In our freshman year, we broke the 9 year streak that the band had for winning the championship.” said Ryan Perry, a senior and the Hart Marching Band’s woodwind captain.  “This marks our second consecutive year winning, so it feels good to be back on top. We’re really hoping to keep the streak going.”

The Hart Regiment members performed their new show entitled “Royals”, in which they played both classical music and arrangements of pop songs.

“Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral” by Richard Wagner, “We Are The Champions” by Queen and “Royals” by Lorde were among some of the pieces that the band performed, according to Hart High School clarinetist and senior Alyssa Enriquez.

The Hart Regiment has been practicing their show since July, for about 12-14 hours every week, according to Perry.

Hart competes in Division 4A, the most highly contested division with the largest bands.

Twelve marching band and colorguard units competed against Hart for the championship, among them West Ranch High School and Granada Hills Charter High School, according to the SCSBOA website.

In addition to the championship title, the SCSBOA also awarded two caption awards at the Division 4a awards ceremony.

Hart Regiment was honored with the “High Auxiliary Caption Award” and West Ranch High Wildcat Marching Band won the “High Percussion Caption Award.”

Band and colorguard units are invited to compete in the SCSBOA Championships based upon their performance in several SCSBOA competitions throughout the marching season, among them Hart Rampage, which the school hosted Nov. 1.

Only the top performing groups are invited to perform at the competition.

SCSBOA Championships is the event that our marching season leads up to. The journey from July to that moment when ‘Hart Regiment, the judges are ready’ is announced is made up of countless hours of hard work,” Enriquez said. “It’s all expressed on the field, showing an accumulation of all the effort and amazing moments that we bonded over and shared together.”
