Hot Weather Warning Issued

It may seem like we’re stating the obvious, but the National Weather Service has issued a warning to residents of the Los Angeles area mountains and the Antelope, Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valleys that it’s going to be really hot outside for the next few days.

The heat wave is expected to bring temperatures exceeding 100 degrees that will last for a few days due to high pressure over the desert. Heat index values, which have been described as “how the temperature really feels” depend on the interaction of humidity and heat. The National Weather Service defines a heat wave as two or more days with a heat index value from 105-110F.

Temperatures this week are expected to remain just below critical heat warning thresholds, however, the long duration heat wave could post health hazards for anyone outdoors, especially the elderly, small children and pets.

If you plan on being outdoors, remember to remain hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Wear loose-fitting clothing and a hat and remain in the shade or indoors as much as possible. Never leave children or pets in cars with the windows up or cracked during the day, even for a very short time, as temperatures can quickly reach lethal levels.
