Applications will initially be considered on the local level by Zonta Club of the Santa Clarita Valley, an affiliate of Zonta International that sponsors the Women in Business Program. The local Zonta club is expected to award $1,000 to its winner and forward that student’s application to Zonta District 9 for district consideration, according to a press release. The winner at the district level is expected to receive another $1,000 and become eligible to compete for one of twelve $7,000 scholarships offered by Zonta International.
Since the program’s inception, Zonta has awarded 314 international scholarships to women from 44 countries, according to the release. One of Santa Clarita’s Jane M. Klausman winners went on to become an international winner in 2010.
JMK applications are available online here, where they are posted in a fillable format for online submission. Hard copies can also be printed out and mailed per instructions posted with the application. All applications must be completed and postmarked on or before April 11, 2014.
“The Jane M. Klausman Scholarship is awarded annually to encourage women to overcome gender barriers from the classroom to the boardroom,” said Terry Kanowsky, chair for the Zonta club of the Santa Clarita Valley Jane M. Klausman Committee. “The goal is to encourage women to enter careers and seek leadership positions in the business-related fields, and ultimately influence business decisions that positively affect women by increasing the number of women in executive positions in the field of business management.”
