Wanted For: Impersonating a Police Officer

On Friday, April 13, 2007, a female student was contacted by a man in the parking lot of Saugus High School. The person showed the student a badge and claimed to be a deputy sheriff.

He proceeded to tell the student he was working undercover and asked her if she would be willing to assist him. The student gave the man her cell phone number and the man called her several times following the initial incident.

As a result of the student's immediate report of the incident and a thorough investigation by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station – Career Offenders Burglary and Robbery Apprehension Team (COBRA); in cooperation with the City of Santa Clarita, the County of Los Angeles and the William S. Hart School District, a suspect was identified. Deputies arrested Joseph Cornejo, MH/21, of Palmdale at his place of employment in Valencia on Monday afternoon after he was reportedly directly linked to the crimes.

 

Suspect Cornejo was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station on misdemeanor charges of Impersonating a Police Officer and Annoying Children. He was released pending future court proceedings after he posted $50,000 bail.
