Life Leadership with Alex Urbina – March 10, 2014
On today’s show Alex and Wendy sit down and talk with SCVi Charter School about the projects that the students/learners have taken on that last throughout the year. Also how this helps the students/learners create self-motivation.
There are no boundaries when it comes to the subject matter for the kids to choose from, a SCVi Facilitator said.
The year-long projects at SCVi Charter allow the learners to grow and achieve different but relatable events and what interest in.
The learners take something they are passionate about and create an event about it. One learner loved to create groups and one thing such as video games, horses and other things. She had the idea of creating an event that brought people together just like the famous Comic Book convention Comic-Con in San Diego.
Each student has an inquiry question. This is compared to a thesis in college. It is one question to see what the student will get out of it.
By doing the comic-con event it brought a bunch of different cultures and it opened the entire campus to these groups and a bunch of people opened to a new life and culture of people.
Another learner’s personal project was how she could raise money for the local Santa Clarita homeless shelter.
“I thought it could be a great idea, and I love to make films so I decided to accompany my project by making a documentary,” a learner said.
