Life Leadership with Alex Urbina – April 8, 2013

On today’s show Alex and Wendy and guests discuss emotionally intelligence. What is emotional intelligence, everyone will have different abilities and definitions.

What does it mean to you?

I believe we are all born with different styles and temperaments, Don said. I believe you can learn to live with other people’s temperaments and grow.

I think it is something you can learn, Wendy said. Can you or can’t you the question is up there, but for me you can definitely be emotionally intelligent. Even in different cultures you have to learn how they live and take emotions into account.

While in Spain I learned that personal space is different and people were bumping into me but I had to learn they didn’t mean anything by it it was just how their culture was and I had to learn that, Wendy said.

At SCVi Charter you are really propelling your students to get a hold of their emotions and really strengthen their skills to navigate through a hard time emotionally.

The person with the highest mental intelligence do have time to be emotional and be able to handle multiple personalities in their live.

One of the best compliments we receive is when we hear that our students wow parents in how they come up and aren’t intimidated and can talk to a group of adults and not have that young person older person conflict, Amber said.

When I think of decision making I think of choice, Alex said.

“Not many people realize that they do have a choice in their decisions,” Alex said.

At SCVi Charter we have a high value in social-emotional intelligence, Dawn said.

What a great tool to create emotional intelligence is asking your teenager or child even questions that you wouldn’t normally ask and by doing so you start the ball rolling and that develops new thoughts and how they think about their lives, Alex said.
