Life Leadership with Alex Urbina August 12, 2013
On Today’s show Alex sits down with facilitators from SCVi Charter School. SCVi Charter is a school that pushes the boundaries and has a new take on the traditional learning system.
As the school year approaches, SCvi charter is getting ready for a full year of events starting with an annual retreat.
During their stay they had events such as creating a new product and the students/learners had to pitch their new idea similar to that of the show “Shark Tank.”
Also there was those rough days such as the leadership, and how eye opening it was to ask the kids questions they never have been asked before, such as who has family members in jail or on drugs. Also who is having a tough time, just reaching into a deeper place.
A lot of trust was built during that experience and seeds were planted that are still growing inside and had created a new thought on life.
During the SCVi Charter retreat, the facilitators did an exercise about eye contact. Each person paired up and looked into their eyes.
“After a few minutes of looking into her eyes I felt emotions with her and I started to cry due to the love I felt she transferred to me,” a facilitator said. “After the exercise was over, I needed to share, and I never share in front of a group, but I had too.”
By sharing your thoughts you can help others that might be afraid to say anything but feel the same way, Alex said.
