Life Leadership with Alex Urbina – August 11, 2014
On today’s show, Host Alex Urbina sits down with SCVi Charter School director Amber Raskin and Facilitators and discuss a new style of education and about leadership among the youth.
We are living a leadership movement, Alex said. When I hit my stride or when my light-bulb turned on I was in my mid twenties. What is great about SCVi is you are challenging the students to turn that light bulb on from a very young age which is great.
A great thing SCVi offers is the acceptance of questioning the “teachers” and also having the classroom become of a more partnership not just a day-care of sorts.
Nobody has the right way, a SCVi facilitator said. No one person has all the answers or knows how to get there, which is great, because what might work for one learner may not for another but that is fine.
“Failure is not an option it is mandatory,” a SCVi facilitator said. Failure gives the students an opportunity to push themselves because it is ok to fail so it gives them the motivation to get out of their comfort zone.
