Life Leadership with Alex Urbina – August 18, 2014
On today’s show, Host Alex Urbina sits down Scott Spackey, an addiction counselor, and talks about personal growth and personal transformation and how to better yourself and others and what it takes and the discipline you need to do so.
One of the greatest gifts I was given when starting my transformation was being told what people thought of me before I said or knew them, Alex said. It was eye-opening to hear I came off as a scary, intimidating guy and that was just not me. I allowed those in and started from there.
One quote that sticks is if you change the way you look at things the things you look at change, Alex said. I can’t change the things around me but if I change and shift the inner work the outer will shift and follow.
We do not have control of what is out there, Spackey said. But we can perceive the world around us in a different way and be all the better for it.
The mind will re-enforce any perception that it is giving, Spackey said. When we do have negative thoughts about ourselves, we have to think about what are the beliefs or the simple question of why do I think this way.
