Life Leadership with Alex Urbina – January 20, 2014
On today’s show Host Alex Urbina and co-host Wendy Amara sit down and talk about what kids need today and what they need from their parents.
A big thing that modern parents do, or at least I do, is when to know when to rescue my kids, Alex said.
A big question is when do you step in as a parent when your child is struggling. More times than not, parents are stepping in too quickly and that handicaps your child because they don’t grow. Growth from failures is important.
Exactly, in life you have to fail and have things not go the way they though so they can learn from that and grow, Wendy said.
What kids need from us is to be a great listener so they can grow and find the answer for themselves, Alex said.
We agree that our kids and kids in general need to exercise healthy risk. They need to go out of their comfort zone. We need to be their for them.
A new style of parenting is coach parenting.
It is asking the questions versus telling them. Ask them and let them think for themselves. do not just tell them how to do or feel, but let them develop their own answers.
Kids are trying to create their own personal power, and if you as a parent do not allow them to do so, it cripples their own creativity and will continues through their adult life.
