Life Leadership with Alex Urbina – July 14, 2014
On today’s show Host Alex Urbina and co-host Wendy Amara sit down and talk with SCVi Charter School facilitators about homeschooling and today’s education.
What are the distinctions of learning and knowing?
When I was in school I learned the material just to pass the test and then more than likely forgot it and didn’t retain the information, Alex said.
At SCVi Charter they excel on pushing the kids/learners to find the answer in multiple different ways.
The home-study program at SCVi is different than regular home school.
I love how we evolved as parents to say to the school I want my child to learn like this, Alex said.
We ask the child what they are interested in and go from there and develop an education plan, a SCVi facilitator said.
At SCVi, we try to develop creative and focus on that even at the home-study level. We allow the children to explore their own interest. We are project based at SCVi and there is a lot of freedom at home-study and we allow a different lesson plan for a lot of the learners.
The Home-Study program is a very family-based program. It does take a lot from parents
