Guests: Lisa DeLong, Bereavement Facilitator
Life Leadership with Alex Urbina – June 3, 2013
On Today’s show Alex and Wendy sit down with Lisa DeLong, and talked about her book, about living with two children with cancer.
DeLong is an inspirational speaker, who had a son Justin that had leukemia, and it hit her hard once Justin fell to his illness.
“It was a very dark period,” she said. “It was the third year after Justin died that I could go back and help those who lost children.”
I then became a bereavement facilitator.
It is great that you do that and you provide a safe space for those who are grieving to do so, Alex said.
I liked that you said that, a safe space, that is what I was trying to create.
Growing up it never was hard for me get past death, but it hit me hard once more and more people started to go from my family, Alex said.
I got caught up in that “fog” where I don’t believe it or I mask pain.
The “fog” is a real thing and you can’t let it overcome you, Lisa said.
For me it was my brother, who died from a car crash, Wendy said. When they told me I was in shock and I think I am still in the fog of it, I don’t fully believe it.
Everyone has their own process and it is different.
When I was listening to Wendy’s story, I thought about my experiences and how I allowed myself to experience my experiences, Alex said.
When I wanted to cry, I cried, rather than holding that it and it feels like it helped with the bereavement process, Alex said.
