First student from Early College High to represent district student population.
Abby Lim, a
sophomore at Early College High School, has been elected Student Board Member
for the Wm. S. Hart Union HighSchool District for the 2008-09 school year. She will
represent the student point of view at district Governing Board meetings
through next June.
Lim, in her
second year at Early College High School, maintains a grade point average of 4.25
and is ranked fifth in her class academically. Outside of school, she is a
member of an international dance and singing group and teaches Korean at a Korean
school in Northridge. She also is a member of Visions in Progress, sponsored by
the SCV Youth Advisory Committee. Her hobbies include playing the guitar,
singing and dance.
Lim will be
installed as Student Board Member at the Hart District Governing Board meeting
on Oct. 16.
Although the
Student Board Member’s vote doesn’t affect the final outcome of a Governing
Board vote, the student member is seated with regular Board members,
participates in Board discussion and is asked to express her opinion on all
votes taken in a Governing Board meeting.
The Student
Board Member is elected by the district’s Student Communications Council, whose
members represent student government organizations across the Hart District.
The council also elected its own officers at its initial meeting of the school
year: Connor Kampff, Saugus High
School,
president; Justin Barnes, West Ranch High School, vice president; and Karely Tamayo, Golden Valley High School, secretary.
Both the Student
Communications Council and the Student Board Member are part of the Hart
District’s ongoing effort to encourage two-way communication between students
and the district’s Governing Board and administration.
