A local teen is set to attend the presidential inauguration as an ambassador for a national program.

[view:node_ad=5]Fernando Cazares, 13, has been chosen by the People to People Presidential Inauguration Program to attend the swearing in of the 44th president Barack Obama.
Cazares, who is also a film maker, plans to produce a video journal of his experiences at the inauguration.

“I’m honored to be there to see the swearing in of President Barack Obama,” said Cazares.

Cazares was part of the People to People Program previously and was chosen to represent them along with other returning alumni ambassadors at the inauguration.

In 2007 Cazares was nominated by his 5th grade teacher to attend his first People to people leadership summit.  He has also received numerous other awards including Broadcaster of the Year in 2008 for his work at Arroyo Seco Junior High, as well as the Knuston Scholarship.

Image As People to People Ambassadors, Czares and the other students will meet with U.S News and World Report Chief White House Correspondent Kenneth Walsh of Mary Eisenhower, the granddaughter of President Dwight Eisenhower.  In addition to meeting with political experts, students will visit the National Archives, National Museum, and Washington’s treasured monuments and memorials.

The People to People Program was started in 1956 by President Eisenhower to bridge cultural and political borders through education.
