Lucy’s Wish from the Orphan Train, by April Reyes

Good Morning KHTS Listeners, My name is April Reyes.  I am in Mrs. Waller’s 4th grade class at Mitchell Elementary School.

The book I am reviewing is called Lucy’s Wish from the Orphan Train Children series written by Joan Lowery Nixon.  It was written in 1998 and is 116 pages long.

Lucy’s Wish is about a girl named Lucy whose parents have died.  She is living in an alley until one of her friends named Joey tells her about an orphan train.  Lucy goes aboard the train that is heading to Missouri.  At the first stop, she is not choosen to be taken home by a family, but at the second stop she is chosen by a family named the Snapes.  The mother is mean to Lucy at first, but the father is kind to her.  Their little girl named Emma is fun to play with.  However, Lucy wishes for a baby sister to cuddle and sing to.  Eventually, she learns to be happy with the new family that she has.

The book Lucy’s Wish is a great story even though it has sad parts.  It was sad when her parents died and she was all alone.

I think that other readers will enjoy this book because Lucy is a girl that stands up for people that are nice to her.  She is also a very understanding girl who cares for other people.
