So anyway, Ed is not here, he is on the rode with his wife. So I have a guest host for the show today. my buddy Chris is here as my guest host. I thought it would be a good idea to talk about the business side of the entertainment industry.
Thanks Doug, I really am exited about this. I am an agent a talent agent. Basically my job is to book artists for their tours. I represent Tom Petty, Kenny Loggins and over 350 more and I have been doing it for over 32 years now. I mainly book artists for corporate events and such.
So Microsoft, Acura, Mercedes Benz, all these people are having conventions, or conferences and they need a way to entertain their employees. They call a company that helps produce the show, that company calls me and I book the artist. Are there acts that feel like it is beneath them to perform at a corporate show? Well there where. They used to believe that it was like Vegas, where your career goes to die. But we know that is not true. And lets face it they are staying at nice hotels, and people don’t know who are behind those doors.
I had a friend go to a ford convention and they had Toby Keith play at some park. The problem was half the crowd was into it and the other half was playing on the swings. Ya that can be a problem, especially in a place like Vegas where there are lots of things to do. But if you are in a place like Boise, that’s all the entertainment there is. It is tough and you know you are not always getting the fans and that is the down side of corporate. Does that bother any of the acts? No because if it does then they shouldn’t be doing it. and the money is good so they normally don’t have a problem with it.
So are you responsible for the day to day of something you book? Yes I am responsible for everything that happens during a tour.
