NORTH COPPER HILL AREA NOW PART OF CITY OF SANTA CLARITA

The Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) approved the annexation for the North Copper Hill area, which as of today, November 29, 2012, is part of the City of Santa Clarita.  As a result of the annexation, the City of Santa Clarita is now the third largest city in Los Angeles County based on its population of 203,300 residents.

The North Copper Hill annexation is the largest the City has completed to date at 2,475 acres, including more than 9,500 new residents.  The annexation also includes Copper Hill Park, David March Park, and Pacific Crest Park.

The decision to annex is always one that is driven by residents or developers.  Annexation has many benefits including: replacing County zoning with City zoning; eliminating utility user tax; providing easily accessible local government services and increasing the availability of City sports and recreation programs. Additionally, it enables residents to vote in local elections, run for City public office and serve on City commissions.

“We are excited to welcome the residents of the North Copper Hill area into the City,” said Mayor Frank Ferry.  “We take great pride in offering a high quality of life for our residents, including excellent public safety, library services, parks, recreation and so much more.”

The annexation area was reviewed by the Local Agency Formation Commission in April 2012 and it was determined theCity of Santa Clarita is financially sound and capable of providing services to the North Copper Hill area.
