Old Town Newhall Library Presents Unique Events This December

The City of Santa Clarita Public Library will host an array of events through the holidays at the Old Town Newhall Library for community members of all ages. 

Residents can enjoy learning new ways to bring out the creativity in preparing for the season by participating in free events and programming at the Old Town Newhall Library, including:

  • Literacy & Arts Festival- Hosted on Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., this event is a day full of entertainment, education and activities to encourage, promote, and expose the importance of literacy and the performing arts to the community.   
  • Dustin Thomason Author of 12∙21- Hosted on Tuesday, December 4, at 7:00 p.m., this event will feature New York Timesbest-selling author Dustin Thomason who will debut his newest novel 12∙21, a riveting thriller based on the apocalypse phenomenon.
  • Create a Holiday Wreath– Hosted on Monday, December 10, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the free hands-on workshops will offer inspiration for decorating wreaths. This program is for ages 18 and older and prior registration is required.
  • Legends of Santa Clarita SCV Book Talk and Signing- Hosted on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 10:30 a.m., this event will feature a book discussion for adults.
  • Holiday Card and Gift Tag Making– Adults and teens are invited to learn how to make personalized holiday cards and gift tags using scrap booking techniques at a free workshop hosted from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18.
  • Family Movie Nights- Enjoy watching a variety of holiday-themed classics at the free family movie nights, which will include showings of: A Charlie Brown Christmas on Friday, December 7, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Polar Express on Friday, December 14, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and How the Grinch Stole Christmas on Friday, December 21, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In addition to these events, the Old Town Newhall Library will offer classes to teach community members how to get free eBooks for your Nook, Kindle and iPad at the end of December and in January 2013.

Kyle Jellings grew up in the Santa Clarita Valley and graduated from Canyon High School in 2004. Following his high school career he spent three years at College of the Canyons where he graduated with his Associate's Degree. Kyle then traveled to Utah where he obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Communication: Journalism emphasis from Utah Valley University. While in Utah, Kyle had the opportunity to do many different internships which included a Production Assistant at ESPN 700 and a Media Relations Assistant with the 2009 MLS Cup Champions Real Salt Lake. Kyle was married to his wife Paola in 2008 and they had their first child, Calvin, in August of 2010. When Kyle is not at KHTS he enjoys spending time with his family and being involved in sports in any way.
