On Tuesday, January 1st, 2013, the SCV Aquatic Center hosted its 7th annual New Years Day Polar Bear Plunge. In 45 degree weather attendees were in their bathing suits and rushing through a pool that wasn’t heated. Before the event, a person dressed as a polar bear walked around posing for pictures with guests and giving encouragement to everyone. Before and after the event hot chocolate was offered and there were heaters to help warm up those who had taken the plunge. As a bonus to the plunge, the aquatic center opened up the slide and people took no time in lining up to go down. In past years the event cost a small fee but this year the event was free.
