The Providence Blood Donor Center brought out their 29-foot Bloodmobile to the 12th Annual Oldies and Goodies Classic Car Show, held on September 8th at Saugus Speedway.
Among those who took time to donate blood were: Dr. Gene Dorio, host of the Senior Hour heard on AM-1220 KHTS, L.A. County Sheriff Lieutenant Mike Dunkle and KHTS' own Connie Jones.
With surgical tape across his mouth to prevent screaming, Lt. Dunkle went Arm-to-Arm with Connie and the Doctor to see who could donate a full pint the quickest.
Connie Jones won Arms Down with Dr. Dorio improving this year taking 2nd Place. Lt. Dunkle placed 3rd and never made a sound.
Mike Dunkle said, in this instance, it is truly better to give rather than receive.
Everyone is sure that next year Dr. Dorio could take 1st Place. It all hinges on preparation prior to donating.
Connie says her winning strategy was to go to hometownstation.com and link to the Providence website where she got information on preparing to donate blood. Connie says the most important tip is to be sure to hydrate prior to donating.
