Santa Clarita Employment Strong Heading Into Holidays

Santa Clarita’s economy is holding strong heading into the busy holiday season.  The latest unemployment numbers for Santa Clarita show a slight increase from 5.7 percent in September 2013 to 5.8 percent in October 2013 according to the California’s Employment Development Department.

Santa Clarita’s unemployment rate continues to decline from its height during the Great Recession.  October’s rate is down from a year ago when it was 6.4 percent.

“Santa Clarita’s job market remains strong as the economy continues to improve and businesses continue to hire more employees,” said Mayor Bob Kellar.  “We will continue to work with our business and economic partners to identify opportunities for residents to work close to home.”

Santa Clarita’s unemployment rate remains lower than the State and National unemployment rates, which are 8.7 percent and 7.3 percent respectively.

The City of Santa Clarita continues to work with the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation (SCVEDC), the Chamber of Commerce, Valley Industry Association (VIA), College of the Canyons, and the Santa Clarita WorkSource Center to attract and retain jobs, create hiring opportunities and provide training programs for residents in the area.
